These speakers are second-generation Advents, with the improved crossover network and the 'basket' mounted woofers (rather than the ones mounted on masonite). Serial numbers are U4-17288 and U4-34914. This is a speaker system for the audio connoisseur desiring accurate, wide-range, spacious sound reproduction.
Greetings To All !
Please forgive me if I have posted this request in the wrong area since I am a newbie to this forum and this is my first post. That said, I am asking for anyone's assistance in identifying a set of Advent Floor Model Speaker Cabinets that I picked up today at a local thrift shop.
I can only give you the information at hand, overall cabinet dimensions, speaker sizes and a description of the rear panel connection since I see no obvious way to upload pictures in this posting.
The overall cabinet size is: 26' High x 11.5' Deep x 14.125' Wide
The cabinetry 'appears' to be solid wood covered in a vinyl woodgrain wrap.
The woofer speaker size is 11.625' center of speaker mounting hole to mounting hole measured diagonally with a 10.5' circular cutout and is lower center mounted.
The tweeter mounting plate measures 5' Wide x 4.5' High.
The tweeter cone measures 3.125' wide and is circular with a rust colored brownish appearance covered by a wire mesh protective grill and is mounted top left of center.

The face of the cabinet perimeter is flat and measures 3.75' thickness.
The exposed area of the rear connection panel measures approximately 3' x 3' square and has two knurled thumbscrew 'nuts' for the wire connections with a 3 position toggle switch centered between the two speaker wire connection terminals.
It is labeled as follows:
'The Advent Loudspeaker'
'U346283' as the speaker serial number.
Under the serial number is: 'HIGH FREQUENCY CONTROL'
'NORMAL DECREASE EXTENDED'
One terminal lug is labeled '0', the opposing terminal is labeled '8 Ohms'
Under the speaker connection terminals is printed: 'ADVENT CORPORATION'
Under that text is printed: 'CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS'

The woofers rolled foam is almost completely crumbled from dry rot although the tweeters appear to be in good physical condition although I have yet to test the voice coils or crossover networks for any failure although I plan to replace the apparently 'electrolytic' capacitors with fresh Nichicon high grade capacitors. Since one woofer is missing from one of the cabinets, unless I am able to locate an original replacement I will be forced to replace both woofers with decent quality replacement speakers. I would like to keep these as original as possible ans simply replace the rolled foam suspension in order to restore them to as original condition as humanly possible but availability of an original replacement woofer will dictate what eventual avenue I will take with regard to this issue. And, lastly I have yet to test the still existing woofer and tweeters to ensure they still retain good voice coils before attempting any further speaker restoration.
If anyone is able to give me any and all available information regarding the actual model name or number of these loudspeaker systems I would truly be very appreciative ! I purchased a brand new pair of the Advent 2 bookshelf speakers with the white polymer enclosures back in the early 1970's and they sounded very good and served me for many faithful years until they and I parted company many years later. I am now age 62 and truly appreciate whatever 'old school' as 'high end' salvaged equipment that my menial budget will afford. I recently inherited a Mitsubishi DA-A7DC Dual Mono Audio Power Amplifier in pristine condition from a college radio station who was recently performing equipment upgrades and the price of FREE was much to my obvious pleasure ! At a rated output of 75 Watt RMS, the amplifier seems to be a good 'fit' for these floor mount speakers once I am able to restore them to their former glory. I figured it would be best to accomplish this restoration project while my hearing still permits me to enjoy old school Blues, Jazz, Motown and Rock. I, most likely as all of you has a great appreciation for this older equipment and restoring it to it's former glory.
Thank all of you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide !
